South Asian Triple Helix Association (SATHA) Innovation Award is an international award by South Asian chapter of International Triple Helix Association. It is awarded to professional heroes for their extraordinary contribution to Academics, Industry and Civil society.
This year i.e., 2017, SATHA Innovation Award ceremony was held as part of 2nd Invention to Innovation Summit Sind on 22nd December 2017 at Jinnah University for Women Karachi. In this event, two faculty members of Hamdard Institute of Engineering & Technology (HIET) Karachi were rewarded with SATHA Innovation Awards. First one was Dr. Muhammad Faisal Khan (Associate Professor, HIET) who was honored with the award for his innovation titled “Flowing Water Examination Device”. His team includes Engr. Saifuddin Hirani as Co-Principle Investigator, Mr. Muhammad Usman Abbasi, Mr. Rana Muhammad Ali Majeed Rajput and Mr. Mursaleen Khan. The team investigated and worked towards development of cheap, easily installable device for monitoring impurities like dust, sewerage contents etc. in water as well as for avoiding loss of energy due to stoppage of water in the incoming line whereby the motor keeps on running. The team also submitted a Provisional Patent to Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan.
Engr. Syed Asim Raza (Assistant Professor, HIET), another recipient of the award from Hamdard University (HU), received SATHA innovation award for his project titled “Hands on vocational training & awareness for skill development to the local rural population”. This project of Rs. 1 Million, has jointly been funded by HU and Higher Education Commission, Pakistan (HEC). Prof. Dr. Syed Muhammad Mubeen (Vice Principal Basic, HCMD) is the Co-Principal Investigator of this funded project. The scope of this project covers hands on vocational training and awareness for skill development to the local rural population around the main campus of HU. Project team trained over 70 local people with the essential technical skills.
In the award ceremony, Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed (Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan) was the Chief Guest who appreciated Hamdard University’s efforts towards solving problems of a common man. Many other distinguished individuals including, Dr. Muhammad Ashraf (Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF)), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ajmal Khan (Vice Chancellor, University of Karachi), Heads of many public and private sector universities, CEOs of many leading companies and representatives of large number of academic and commercial organizations graced the event by their presence.
