Mission and Goals

As the brain-child of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said, the Founder-Chancellor of this seat of learning, Hamdard University is dedicated to the nation for the cause of education. The first step he took was the establishment of Bait al-Hikmah Library in 1989 on the main campus of Hamdard University at Madinat-al-Hikmah.

In line with its Mission, the University strives hard to achieve a level of excellence comparable with international standards in all spheres of its operations viz. education, learning, research and development of professional skill through training. As the touchstone of its success, the University would like to emphasize character building and integrity awareness in students, so that they learn to live by their own efforts in a spirit of self-reliance and enterprise.

Hamdard University is honor-bound to provide value based education to students of every caste, color, creed and religion within its bounds to fulfil the vision of its Founder Shaheed, Hakim Mohammed Said. The following main goals serve as our guiding principles.

  • To provide state of the art educational and laboratory facilities, and a conductive environment to students and staff for their professional and personality development.
  • To employ and retain capable, competent and renowned teaching and research staff.
  • To help building good moral character and self-reliance in our students through the process of formal and informal interactions and counseling.
  • To promote Islamic accent on enlightenment through a firm effort to make our students and faculties compatible with the material and spiritual progress of mankind.
  • To foster the promotion of freedom of thought with accent on the holistic attitude towards plurality of views. The only provision to keep a watch on this unhindered march towards self development is that it carries with the right to free development of personality within the threshold of tolerance.
  • To produce knowledgeable, professionally sound and enlightened individuals able to contribute their share to the national and global development and welfare. It seeks to make them live up to the vision of a well-integrated material and spiritual world to have the courage to combat the divisive and mutually exclusive tendencies rampant in the present day society.

Governed by the principles of total quality management, the University is maintaining an internal mechanism of quality evaluation and is continuously striving to enhance the standard of education imparted at the various levels. The most significant evidence of Hamdard University’s success as an authentic, high-quality educational institution is its alumni, holding responsible positions in national and international organizations.

The main campus of Hamdard University at Madinat al-Hikmah spreads over a plain land with picturesque landscape in its background. The location of the campus is of great historical and geographical significance. It lies on the main highway, which connects it to the Hub Chowki on the road to Quetta. It is situated along the Hub River on the borders of Sindh and Balochistan provinces. The site, according to the renowned archaeologists, is the place where Muhammad Bin Qasim, who made Sindh the gateway of Islam in the sub-continent, landed on his way to Daibal. The Campus is also closer to yet another historic site i.e. the shrine of Shah Noorani in the Lasbela district of Balochistan.

Access to the university has been further extended due to the development of Northern By-pass which connects Super Highway to the university at one hand and with Baluchistan on the other

The greener landscape, irrigated by the Hub River, flowing at a closer distance, presents an ideal landscape suited to learning and research pursuits, away from the hectic life of the cosmopolitan city of Karachi. The gardens, farms fields and avenues of the main campus offer a panorama where nature seems to manifest itself uninhibitedly. Within its boundaries, beautiful buildings of the various faculties and departments are situated in a well planned landscape.

It is in the proximity of this natural landscape and historical site that Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said decided to establish Hamdard University, now one of the biggest private seats of learning in Pakistan. The University has the following Faculties:
